National Memorial Arboretum

A wonderful trip yesterday. The weather was autumnal but sunny and somehow the nip in the air made the visit more poignant.

I was surprised by how busy it was and very impressed by the atmosphere there. I had not expected so many tributes to so many individual named people, on trees, benches and paving stones. And there were some imaginative sculptures, not only the striking ones below, but the various ones to the many  branches of the armed services, both past and present.  WP_20141005_004

Most Most moving of all was the one of the man pointing to the gap in the wall where at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, a shaft of sunlight falls .
